Website Hosting and Security Terms & Use Policy

If you are using our managed hosting services, the following applies:

By using our hosting services, you grant us access to your website and database for the purpose of hosting and/or backing up your content.

In order to address security vulnerabilities, we will first notify you, and then we may push an upgrade to your site, or we may access your site to remove malicious code.

We may scan your data and content to compile aggregated/anonymized statistics for our internal use to optimize the performance and security of the service.

If you lose access to your Web and Writer account or cancel your membership, you will not be able to access your hosting or backup data. We may not be able to recover backups or data more than fourteen (14) days after the account goes inactive.

You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to copy and store your data and content only to the extent necessary to operate the Service. You own your data and content.

By using our hosting services, you authorize us to access, license, and aggregate your firewall IPs to improve our ability to identify potential threats and prevent attacks on sites hosted on our platform.

Uptime and SLA

For sites that we host, our goal is an uptime of 100% – meaning all sites are available 24/7/365. We know that sometimes this goal may not be achieved, and in those cases, the following Service Level Agreement (SLA) applies:

We guarantee a 99.9% uptime SLA.

We do not place any hard limits on traffic, visits, or bandwidth on your sites. Should your site experience a spike in traffic (both human and/or by bots), your site may experience performance problems or even downtime. We will send an alert on how to upgrade your hosting plan to higher resources in this case, and our SLA will not apply.

Should the SLA not be met during a calendar month, you are entitled to an SLA Credit. You must contact us to request an SLA Credit within 30 days of the end of the month for which the SLA was not met. Credits will be valued at 5% of your monthly hosting charges for each full hour of downtime beyond the SLA and will not exceed 100% of your hosting charges. Downtime will be determined by our monitoring tools.

Our SLA applies to any human errors by our team and by employees or contractors of any 3rd party service providers that we use to supply the hosting service.

Our SLA does not apply to any downtime that is out of our control, including problems resulting from 3rd party code, user-error, or natural disasters such as floods or earthquakes.

Free Hosted Sites

Free hosted sites or sites that are paid for using promotional credit may be archived after 21 days of inactivity. Sites will be marked as ‘active’ automatically if one of the following occurs:

  • The settings for the site have been visited at least once in the Hub in the past 21 days
  • A custom domain has been added to the site and validated

We will send a warning email one week before archiving the site and again when the site is archived. A site can be restored and made active again within 30 days of being archived.

Backup Pro & Web and Writer Hosting Backups

All Web and Writer hosting clients have free storage space that can store website backups for up to 40 days. The storage capacity depends on the membership plan, and additional space can be purchased if needed.

All Web and Writer hosting plans include nightly Hosting backups with no storage costs. Hosting backups can be stored for up to 30 days. Hourly Hosting backup services can be purchased for individual sites at an additional cost.

If you are using the Backup Pro service, the following applies:

By using our Backup Pro or Hosting backup services, you grant us access to your website, database, and any virtual or physical servers for the purpose of backing up and or restoring your data and content.

We may scan your data and content to compile aggregated/anonymized statistics for our internal use to optimize the performance and security of the service.

If you lose access to your Web and Writer account or cancel your membership, you will not be able to access your backup data. We may not be able to recover backups or data more than fourteen (14) days after the account goes inactive.

Prohibited Uses

When using Web and Writer Services, you agree not to:

  • violate any state, federal or foreign laws or regulations;
  • infringe on any intellectual property rights (e.g., copyright, trademark, patent or other proprietary rights, including copy & graphics on the Web and Writer site, the Web and Writer blog and Web and Writer plugins & services);
  • publish, host, or transmit content that is defamatory, slanderous or trade libelous;
  • publish, host, or transmit content that is threatening or harassing;
  • publish, host, or transmit content that is discriminatory based on gender, sexual orientation, race, age or promotes hate;
  • use our hosting services to publish, host, or transmit content in connection with unlawful contests, lotteries, or gambling; pyramid schemes or chain letters;
  • use our hosting services to create a false identity for the purpose of misleading others;
  • use our hosting services to host TOR exit nodes;
  • use our hosting services for cryptocurrency mining;
  • use autodialers or other VOIP based robocalling software on sites hosted by us;
  • disclose the sensitive personal information of others;
  • distribute material that is or enables malware, spyware, adware, or other malicious code;
  • send spam or bulk unsolicited messages;
  • interfere with, disrupt, or attack any service or network;
  • resell, share, or publish Web and Writer credentials or access;
  • make any Web and Writer plugin available for public download in ways that violate the Terms of the GPL 2.0 license.

Website Security Disclaimer

We provide ongoing website security services, including active monitoring, firewalls, global IP lockouts, SSL implementation, and daily malware scans. These services are designed to strengthen your website’s defenses but do not guarantee complete protection against all threats. This is a continuous, proactive service—not a one-time fix.

While we can often resolve minor security issues at no additional cost, more complex incidents—such as malware clean-up, site restoration, or advanced troubleshooting—may require separate invoicing. We will always inform you of any additional charges before proceeding.

If your website is hosted with us and you maintain an active subscription to our Hosting, Security, and Software Maintenance & Updating package, we offer to restore your website from the most recent safe backup at no additional cost, provided it is feasible and secure to do so.

Web and Writer shall not be held liable for any losses, damages, or disruptions caused by security breaches, malicious activity, or other unforeseen technical issues.

Malware Cleanup

While daily malware scans are included with all of our Website Security plans, a malware clean up is invoiced separately. A malware cleanup process consists of reinstalling all the free plugins and WordPress core files. Our team may not have access to 3rd-party pro-licensed plugins on your site. So to ensure your site is free of malware, you must provide our team with up-to-date copies of all installed pro-licensed plugins or reinstall them as soon as possible.

We will try to perform a backup whenever possible. However, some malware may affect website performance and prevent us from creating a pre-cleanup backup for non-Web and Writer-hosted websites. It is essential to keep updated backups of your websites. We may create a new temporary administrator account if necessary.

Turnaround time is generally 24 hours. However, external factors like hosting issues or communications with the site owner about issues identified by our team that have not yet received a response may cause delays. Hence, full cleanup may take 24-48 hours.

Web and Writer cannot guarantee the code quality for 3rd-party plugins. We can manually check common files and run malware scans after the cleanup, but reinfections may occur, and bringing in a security expert at an additional cost may be necessary.

We also cannot guarantee the successful cleanup in case multiple websites are hosted under the same shared hosting account. Our agents will communicate whenever this is the case.

Our team will configure the main security plugin after the cleanup, without enabling Mask Login Area and 2 Factor Authentication as that is a personal choice, but we recommend enabling both features as soon as we finish the cleanup service.

At the end of this service a full report will be generated with the relevant information, and may include extra steps that must be taken by the site owner, such as replacing outdated plugins that have publicly-identified security vulnerabilities.

The ticket for a one-time malware cleanup request will be closed after the 7-day guarantee. In case of reinfection, a new request via Monday.com would be necessary.

For a recurring subscription, our team will configure the main security plugin to receive a daily report and take necessary actions to ensure your website is clean. For false positive reports, such as a known Google verification HTML file, we will add the file to the security plugin’s ignored list. If you are using plugins with known vulnerabilities, those reports will be communicated to you via the Monday.com task created in the initial cleanup request. If the site is reinfected we will clean it and send a job report in the same ticket. For third-party hosting, we will use the credentials shared in the initial request. We will contact you via the same ticket if the credentials are invalid, or at the email address associated with your Web and Writer account if we receive no response on the ticket. For Web and Writer hosted websites, our team may create a temporary WordPress administrator account to gain access and work on the cleanup. IMPORTANT: do not deactivate the main security plugin on the site nor disable the notifications sent to our email address (support@webandwriter.com) and ensure that outgoing emails work as expected. If the subscription is cancelled, our team will close the ticket and a new cleanup service would need to be purchased in case of reinfection.
